Winter 2016 – Circuits by Katherine Hagman
Artist statement: “I find my greatest inspiration in the geometric patterns and rhythms of the natural world, both micro and macro. From molecular vibrations to the planetary orbits of our solar system, I am in awe. Galvanized by this, I weave overlapping and contrasting patterns that entrance our eyes, which bounce back and forth between each line.
My most recent series of paper embroideries, “Circuits”, explores the relationship between traditional and contemporary mediums and practices. These designs are conceived using a computer drafting program, transferred to paper, and then hand-embroidered using a metallic white thread to evoke imagery of metal circuitry.”
