SUMMER 2018 – Hanging In Here by Jill Dombrowski
The mobile is traditionally a comforting object, providing a calming effect with its pleasing arrangement of neatly balanced objects. I’ve created modular origami from various manuals, books, and household papers. Each origami piece is distinct but similar in shape, size, or pattern to the others on its branch. White branches from area trees provide the structure of each mobile.
If you are feeling a shortage of community or childlike whimsy, I hope these pieces of organized complexity stir something in you. For me they are also a reminder that old materials can be reworked and reconnected into engaging forms with aesthetic power.
Jill Dombrowski lives three blocks from here. Her family strolls to Strange Matter most Saturday mornings to enjoy lattes and doughnuts. She graduated from the University of Michigan with various engineering degrees. Her cat’s name is Ruby; Ruby is from Rhode Island.
