We’re Strange Matter Coffee;

a coffee bar & bakery in Lansing, Michigan. We originally opened as a coffee stand in the Eastside’s Allen Street Farmers Market. Our first small shop opened in 2014, with only four employees and twenty seats. Since then, we’ve grown to three locations, started our own bakery, and now have 50 employees!

Strange Matter Coffee Co. is the invention of Cara Nader, with the help of more people than can be listed. Cara has spent over a decade in the coffee industry as a manager, trainer, regional barista competitor, and previously served as the Great Lakes Barista Guild Chapter Representative. Cara has traveled the world to experience coffee and wants nothing more than for the people of Lansing to enjoy excellent beverages.

Coffee and baking are a science. We have to understand the variables that affect coffee extraction and baking and control them! Control the variables!

The mission of Strange Matter is to bring the best coffees and pastries to our community, while enriching our neighborhood and creating a safe and welcoming space for contemplation, homework, art, first dates, vintage markets, cross stitch workshops, and whatever else y’all can dream up.
